The Interview…

Society Moms: Vicki, tell us how you got started on the path as a business coach?

Vicki Irvin: Well, growing up I wasn’t particularly an A student with a focus on running a business. In fact my career was in human resources. I was responsible for firing employees. That’s what I did and I wasn’t fulfilled at all. It was rather depressing, but it was also what made me realize my job was not secure by any means. The feeling that there was no guarantee I would have a job in the future, made me want to do something about it.

Society Moms: What was your plan? What did you do next?

Vicki Irvin: I talked to my best friend, my husband.  My husband was really straight forward with me. He said: “if you don’t like it, do something about it. Believe in yourself and make it happen”. He supported me 100 percent.

Society Moms: What did doing something consists of for you?

Vicki Irvin: My husband is a phenomenal business man. The group of men in his circle are real men who believe in making business deals work. They taught me how to be as strong as I had to be in order to stand among great business people. I could take the approach of just being a successful business woman, but that wasn’t enough. I had to see myself as a business person, period.

Society Moms: You mention being a successful business person. Is there a successful approach to business as a woman?

Vicki Irvin: What I believe is that women are challenged more by outside things than men tend to be. For example: If we have to speak in front of people, we’re distracted by whether our hair is perfect, if the shoes we’re wearing hurt our feet, if our makeup is right, etc. If we’re not comfortable with ourselves, we’re not as confident as we could be. Men don’t have this issue.

Society Moms: Tell us more about what you discovered women can do to be successful without these struggles you mentioned…

Vicki Irvin: As women, we’re thinkers, we over think things, and often times find that our thoughts hinder us in various areas of our lives where we should be confident. What I wanted to do was learn the truth about business from men and visualize it just as they saw it. In doing that I had to ask my husband and other men he does business with some serious questions, and their transparency with me was most beneficial. I knew it was a formula other women looking to be successful as entrepreneurs needed to know.

Society Moms: Tells us about the SWL brand and what it means?  What was the inspiration behind it?

Vicki Irvin: The SWL brand was definitely created with women in mind. It was inspired behind the fact that as women, we need to feel good about ourselves in order to feel confident.

Society Moms: Tell us what SWL stands for?

Vicki Irvin: SWL stands for (The Super Woman Lifestyle.) SWL is also a Cosmetic Collection created by myself. After having worked with so many beautiful women, I wanted to do something for all the women I was privileged to meet over the years, so I decided to expand my brand by creating a cosmetic line. A cosmetic line that would celebrate the many hats we wear as women. Although, I’ve never been heavy into foundations, I’ve always loved a good lipstick. I so I started there with beautiful colors that would inspire women to feel beautiful.

Society Moms: Now does the cosmetic line only consist of lip colors?

Vicki Irvin: No, not at all. The SWL Collection is a full collection of over 40 beautiful colors rich in pearls, cremes, matte colors, and lip glosses that suit any woman’s needs. In addition, the SWL collection boasts a variety of gorgeous eye liners and lip liners.

Society Moms: Tell us what’s in the news for the SWL Collection?

Vicki Irvin: We’ll we are pretty excited to have Singer and R&B Diva, Chante’ Moore as our celebrity face and brand ambassador of the SWL Collection. Chante’ leads a busy lifestyle as a singer, mother, entertainer, TV Star, and entrepreneur, so she definitely embodies the busy lifestyle of most women in business.

Society Moms: Vicki, I want to talk about the women’s business seminars you are so known for. Over the years women have traveled from all over to attend them. What has been the greatest thing you’ve wanted women business owners to walk away with after attending your seminars?

Vicki Irvin: Well, I didn’t want to offer them just another seminar where we all gathered together to encourage each other, and talk about empowerment. I believe in women’s empowerment, and it’s definitely needed, but after we’ve gained that, we need to know the tools to making a difference in our individual business ventures. We need to know strategies that work in order for us to make money. One of the greatest things that I educate business owners in is how to create a successful client list, how to network, how to use the internet and their emails to connect with fortune 500 hundred companies who need their services. At the end of the day making money is what keeps you in business. Empowerment, although important is the foundation for why we show up to do what it is we’ve been called to do, but women need to know it doesn’t stop there. There is much to be done as a successful entrepreneur.

Society Moms: I understand that your seminars are packed with some big names in business that come out in support of these women, correct?

Vicki Irvin: Indeed. We bring these ladies some A-list entrepreneurs like: Stedman Graham, Chante’ Moore, ABC’s Secret Millionaire, James Malinchak, Top Motivational Speaker, Jonathan Sprinkles, Lance London, Actor Darrin Henson, and Director of Media Relations, Zakiya Larry to name a few. The women definitely leave with key knowledge from the best of the best in business.

Society Moms: Now this year you’ve decided to take up to 6 women per session. Why is that? What are your plans?

Vicki Irvin: This year I’ve chosen six women that I want to mentor personally. I’ll be dedicating my time to them and their business ventures. Mentoring them, walking alongside them and making certain they adopt the mindset necessary to become more than business-women, but successful entrepreneurs as well. I’m really excited about it.

Society Moms: Vicki as we close, tell us in so many words what you want women in business to know? What do you want all women to know?

Vicki Irvin: I want women to know that I understand them, that I’ve been there when life has not always been great. I want women to know that life will throw you curve balls, and that we can get pass them and still be successful. I believe women are pioneers, and we not only wear many hats, but we can be successful in doing so. I’m a wife, a mother, a successful entrepreneur, and a mentor to many. Success in business is possible for women and if they trust me, and I can show them how to obtain that success.

Society Moms: Vicki, why did you decide to give Society Moms this interview?

Vicki Irvin: I believe Society Moms is doing a great thing in the lives of women, by providing awareness in every area concerning women, and I definitely support that.

Thank you, Vicki!
